How to use the glass reactor?

Jun. 29. 2022

The interlayer of the double-layer glass reactor can be connected with high-temperature or low-temperature liquid to provide the required temperature for the experimental materials inside the reactor. The advantage of this design is that the experimental materials will not be polluted. The double-layer glass reactor has good sealing performance as a whole, and can be used for vacuum experiment under reduced pressure. With excellent performance, double glass reaction kettle is suitable for petroleum, chemical, pesticide, medicine, food and other industries. It is a common instrument used to complete the process of vulcanization, nitration, hydrogenation, alkylation, polymerization, condensation etc.

The state of reaction materials shall be considered in the design of double-layer glass reactor. Under normal conditions, the requirements for reaction materials are as follows:

1. Compatible or incompatible liquid: the mixing of liquid can be easily realized by stirring, while the heat transfer of reaction mixture is carried out by convection.

2. Heterogeneous mixing of liquid and solid reactants of appropriate size: in this case, these materials cannot be fully mixed with the help of a stirrer. When the stirring force disappears, the solid materials will precipitate at the bottom of the boiler to form a non-conductive material layer, and the solid reactants will carbonize. The color of the mixture will deepen, and the material carbonization wastes a lot of heat and time. The polymerization reaction is uneven.

To avoid these problems, we can divide the reaction materials into two steps:

1. first add the liquid reaction material into the reactor, and heat the medium temperature to the melting point slightly higher than the reaction temperature or the solid reactant.

2. slowly add solid reactants and keep stirring to make them react or dissolve continuously to avoid sedimentation.
