How to avoid the influence of lotime on experimental samples?

Feb. 22. 2023

Lotime is a substance that is easily dissolved in organic solvents. It will dissolve in pentane, hexane, petroleum ether and dichloromethane, and attach to the inner wall of glass.

The presence of lotime in the rotary evaporator will cause the following problems:

1. Lotime can cause cross contamination.

2. Lotime will lead to errors in sample analysis results.

3. Lotime will affect the subsequent synthesis reaction.

4. If the rotary evaporator is used in the food or catering industry (such as mixing cocktails), lotime is prohibited.

So how to make the rotary evaporator have high sealing performance at the same time? PTFE (Teflon) is an inert, durable, sintered polymer that can resist chemical corrosion. Polytetrafluoroethylene has smaller friction coefficient, is easier to operate, provides better sealing performance, and does not need to apply lotime.
